Fat Rats 04:45
Heard that you were doing good Helping out around the neighborhood Took a while, took a while to see you smile Gotta walk a country mile And there's Fat Rats running up and down my stairs Try and catch em but they just don't care Upside down inside this upstate home But you know that's the way this cookie goes Heard that you were feeling fine But you know I nearly lost my mind You can see that there is something wrong So I put it in this song And there's Fat Rats running up and down my stairs Try and catch em but they just don't care Upside down inside this upstate home But you know that's the way this cookie goes Far away together Nothing's gonna stop me now Holding hands in every kind of weather Gonna be the coolest kids in town Heard that you were lookin mean Still a cog tryna turn the whole machine Gotta run gotta move gotta get away Looking for a better rate of pay And there's Fat Rats running up and down my stairs Try and catch em but they just don't care Upside down inside this upstate home Gotta go someplace where I belong Someplace where I belong Someplace where I belong someplace where I belong

Highlight the pines Yours and mine I've gotta drive For foreign climes I'm singing mercy, mercy Robber barons on parole Drinking solo will save you money But it won't save your soul Won't you carry me home Teach me to rock like a rolling stone Oh, won't you carry me home Got to learn to do it on my own Moon bugs sinking But I feel fine No use thinking Flying down 89 Let the winter roll and rumble Let the wind blow down my door This house was built to crumble Show me what these feet are for Won't you carry me home Teach me to rock like a rolling stone Oh, won't you carry me home Least that way I won't be alone Can't you see? It's only me and I'm on my own Small town nights to city lights Pearl fades to grey With each passing day You know this bus ain't moving It's jut the world around Above and surrounding me Or is it just the sound of snow? Won't you carry me home Teach me to rock like a rolling stone Oh, won't you carry me home Got to learn to do it on my own

Time has come again it seems for you and I to answer the call Respond in glory and find the last few colors of Fall Replace the strings that no longer shine Crack open acorns and wine and dine You always told me I could never place an order too tall Order too tall Order too tall Order too tall Back roads and anecdotes you never know where they are going Rollin down a hall in an unsteerable red wagon Two out of control philosophers Sledding down hills between conifers Hoping we get to where we need to be before we fall Before we fall Before we fall Before we fall Shortest day is here and I must say that I'm feeling cold It's no accident that I would be acting this bold Well I braced for a scolding Instead you smiled and told me No act of kindness is wasted no matter how small No matter how small No matter how small No matter how small

The Escape 05:21
I found you at work with your apron and goggles You were stirring the samples from Wanda and Charles But I kept my distance so not to disturb you I won't be the one to keep you from living Unfold your wings Spread them wide we can catch this breeze Let's fly away We can escape from this land of disease You and me And when were home there were stories and baths And so many other things, I'm glad there were laughs Years seemed to slip away, sunlight and moonlight Passing before my eyes, I'd say it's time we tried Unfold your wings Spread them wide we can catch this breeze Let's fly away We can escape from this land of disease You and me So now I've been thinking Of striving of being And which one I'm feeling And which is deceiving I didn't grasp where it is we were headed I still don't know now, I just learned how to let it

All I want is to talk to you baby But it's expensive using phones You have to find me online baby It's just I feel so all alone Oh I'm in China Oh yes I am Oh I'm in China Doing the best I can, Doing the best I can I know you know that you're my lady But I don't know if I'm gonna last I need your arms around me baby Protect me from this broken glass, Broken glass Yeah I wear sandals Til my feet turn black Don't want no scandal So let me come on back, let me come on back I want to hold you I need some love I know how bold you are You're my monster love, my monster love Oh I'm in China Oh yes I am Oh I'm in China Doing the best I can, Doing the best I can

There's a place I know Where the grass will never go And all along the way Is the path most people take But I don't mind going the long way around I don't care as long as I get there somehow In a shady grove Where the fabric of thoughts unfold And throughout the day Some will hold and some will fray But I don't know what I'm supposed to say As the years pull me further along the way There's a girl I know Who has come here far from her home She's the summer shade she's the cool of a moonlit lake And as I look up from the lake at the clouds Music fades but the moon shines on anyhow There's a hope I hold That after all our stories are told I can fade away None would know if I'd left or I'd stayed But wherever it is that I go Rain or shine, highs and lows However long it takes for me to learn It'll still be the same for me when I return

Dunstance Katrodd was not a very good bard His songs and tales were long and stale His audience found it hard To see him play without running away Or to hear him sing without throwing things Yet still Dunstance Katrodd played on Dunstance Katrodd the irascible runcible bard Annoyed the local tavern folk with pointless stories and barbs of abutted property mortgagings and other rather boring things But still Dunstance Katrodd played on Dunstance Katrodd could never remember the words Dunstance Katrodd could never remember the words Dunstance Katrodd was never in time for his gigs He lived like five minutes from the pub But only excuses and fibs Of spilled beer right before coming here Or forgetting his hat or not feeding the cat Yet still Dunstance Katrodd played on Baron Ben the Bold was coming to Dunstance's town A noble man and fancy dresser, seeking a bard for his court Was going to dine at an inn nearby Which had an open mic from seven til nine So Dunstance Katrodd put his name on the list Dunstance Katrodd, the irascible runcible bard Watched as Ben the Bold grew bored with covers of Wonder Wall By the time it was Dunstance's turn to play Ben the Bold had left and gone away Yet still Dunstance Katrodd played on Dunstance Katrodd practiced very hard Three hours a day he'd fritter away trying to become a good bard Eventually people liked to see him sing and play and Soon King Steve made Dunstance Katrodd his personal bard Also Dunstance Katrodd always remembered the words after that There aren't any more words left in the song But if there were he'd remember them He'd sing them in the right order and Pronounce them all correctly Then he'd reach the end of the song

about

In the late winter of 2016 it became clear that different members of The Mockingbeards were soon heading East in search of fame and fortune. With several unrecorded original songs threatening to fall off the brink into nothingness, a plan was devised. We got together at Paul's garage/studio in Richford, NY and recorded this record on a digital 8 track in the short time we had before departure. Jeremy eventually mixed and mastered it in the Fall that year.

Jeremy Betterley--bass, electric guitar mandolin, vocals
Alex Ford--12 string acoustic guitar, vocals
Megan Silverstein--violin
Paul Vidovich--drums, bass (track 4), vocals (track 4)
Taya Win--Acoustic guitar, vocals
